About Us

Biomass Matters represents a two tiered effort by a group of young professionals supported by mentoring from thought leaders who have pioneered systems approach to sustainable and equitable management of water and land resources, with definitive implication towards reducing energy footprint in agriculture, carbon sequestering, and non food biomass production.

This platform aspires to serve as a peer group mechanism and a referral system to support young professionals in developing innovative solutions and achieving excellence in research and policy.

Meet Our Mentors

Mr. Vinayak Damle
With over 30 years of experience in watershed development and natural resource management, Mr. Damle has been a pioneer in advancing sustainable solutions. Starting with action research to address water and agricultural livelihood gaps at the micro-watershed level, he has contributed to the development of assessment methodologies, planning models, and implementation strategies for integrated management of water, land, energy, agriculture, and biomass resources.An alumnus of IIT Bombay (B.Tech. in Civil Engineering), Mr. Damle co-developed the watershed basin-level Water Balance Model with SOPPECOM and spent 15 years with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in the Special Projects Department. These roles have solidified his expertise in systemic approaches to natural resource management, fostering innovative and actionable strategies for sustainable development.
Seema Deodhar
With 35+ years of experience, Seema Deodhar has trained grassroots health workers in mental health, women's health, nutrition, and primary care. She specializes in reproductive health, preventive care, and gender impacts, empowering rural communities with essential skills. Her expertise includes evaluating maternal health, nutrition, and gender issues, using research to assess program impact and inform policy. She has developed evaluation frameworks, conducted field studies, and collaborated with stakeholders for evidence-based change. She is currently pursuing a doctorate on the evolution of Jamesonia, a fern species.
